Auguste Charles Eugène Napoléon de Beauharnais was born on October 8th, 1779 in Paris, France. He was the son of Alexandre de Beauharnais, a prominent French general, and his wife, Joséphine Tascher de La Pagerie. He was educated at the Collège de Juilly, where he demonstrated an aptitude for military life.
Military Career
In 1797, Auguste Charles Eugène Napoléon de Beauharnais joined the French Army and was made a lieutenant in the artillery. He quickly rose through the ranks and by 1800 he had been promoted to the rank of general. He served in numerous campaigns, including the Battle of Austerlitz in 1805 and the Battle of Wagram in 1809. During this time, he developed a close friendship with Napoleon Bonaparte, who appointed him Governor General of the Kingdom of Italy in 1808.
